The Innovative Teacher Project

Welcome to the Innovative Teacher Project (ITP). Like the citizens of Reggio Emilia, Italy, ITP strives to create a culture of dialogue and research in Northern California that promotes the pleasure of inquiry among children and adults. The cornerstone of the Reggio philosophy is an image of the child as competent, strong, inventive and full of potential – subjects with rights instead of needs. At ITP we offer opportunities for others interested in supporting the potential in children to collaborate, formulate personal interpretations, hypotheses and ideas about teaching, learning and living.

Join us at one of our many roundtable offerings.

The Innovative Teacher Project Roundtable Series for 2019 will be "Image of the child: children as active protagonists of their growth and development process".

Professional development is at the core of the Reggio approach to early childhood education. Participate in one of our seminars.

Our circle is growing. Find a network school in San Francisco's Bay Area.

Reggio Emilia is more than a small city in northern Italy. It is home to one of the most highly respected early childhood education systems in the world. Read more.

Presented by La Scuola International School

A collaborative observation, collection of data and interpretation of children's activities. A look into the collective process of building knowledge and transforming it into a story with children's words, pictures, drawings, conversations and interactions.

Looking collectively at a videotape and obtaining a range of interpretations leads to what Loris Malaguzzi called a "Circle of Ideas," a place where teachers understand children's activities and write the story of their learning process.

The Studio Series:
ITP began as a direct response to the interest in the exhibit "The Hundred Languages of Children". For the last 20 years ITP has brought high quality professional development to the San Francisco Bay Area. The Studio Series is designed to allow for educators to have hands on experiences with various mediums.
